The study was conducted over 17 cities and their provincial education offices to investigate the latest trends on supervision in 2018. The analysis discusses and compares the 2018 business plan to the year 2020 plan. We analyzed the current status of supervision in terms of goals, contents, methods, and subjects of the 17 Provincial Offices.
The results are as follow:
First, the number of supervision terms increased by 38, from 172 in 2018 to 210 in 2020, but the goal of supervision saw minimal change. There were seven education offices with supervision work stated in the goal.
Second, the contents of supervision, from highest to lowest. include: teaching and learning, school and class management and curriculum. Autonomous supervision and customizing supervision have increased and Consulting Supervision and Supportive Supervision have decreased by 2020, compared to 2018.
Third, among the supervision methods, the Korean-style supervision methods. which are not in the theory books, include Consulting Supervision, Supportive Supervision, and Accompanying Supervision. And the responsibility of supervision, from highest to lowest. were the education office’s supervisors, school administrators, and education support officers.
Through the above analysis results, the transfer of supervision authority from the Office of Education to the school, the ecological approach of supervision method. a change to low position of Consulting Supervision, and the supervision based on learning community were confirmed.
