Report Errors
The purpose of this study was to analyze the gender differences in playfulness, communicative competence, and peer play interactions among children and determine how they were associated with one another by gender. A total of 294 children in the age group 4?5 years participated in this study. The participants were from national/public, home-based, and employer-supported nurseries in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province in South Korea. We conducted an online survey to collect data. Frequency test, independent t-test, and Pearson’s product moment correlation analyses were performed for each question. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, playfulness, communicative competence, and peer play interactions differed by gender. Second, both boys and girls had playfulness positively and negatively correlated with peer play interaction. Third, both boys and girls had communicative competence positively and negatively correlated with peer play interaction. Fourth, both boys and girls had initiative playfulness which was positively correlated with communicative competence.
