Kim, Nammee & Joo, Sehyung(2015), “The Relation Phonological Structure and Standard Pronunciation Reflected in KoreanⅠTextbook,” Language & Information Society 26. This article aims at suggesting useful standard pronunciation teaching methodology at the middle school level. For this, relevant eleven chapters in currently used Korean textbooks have been under investigation, which draws a conclusion: they have premise that learners can be led to proper pronunciation education when they are taught Korean phonological structure. Deriving from this premise, however, two different problems arise as follows: first, there is discrepancy between real world communication and the textbook content since it only focuses on phoneme and syllable. Second, Korean phonology suggested in the textbook doesn’t have strong connection with the activity. This article has reviewed items from the curriculum and achievement standards to find out the causes of the problems mentioned above: the textbook doesn’t reflect the understanding on association between Korean phonology and standard pronunciation despite the achievement standards: “Students will be able to use standard pronunciation based on understanding Korean phonological system.” To understand phonological structure indicates that one can make better use of phonological phenomena starting from the relation of items within phonological structure. When they understand this relation and make it connected with phonological phenomena which can be found in their utterance, they can be involved in effective pronunciation education.
