Landscape, a static play belonging to Harold Pinter’s middle period, diverges from his earlier works in terms of mood, style, and technique. The dialogue between the characters in the play serves to filter and distort memories, highlighting the clear lack of mutual communication and empathy. The story revolves around a middle-aged couple, Beth and Duff, who find themselves immersed in daydreams about deeply personal and subjective experiences. Despite physically occupying the same space, their minds wander elsewhere, fixating on different subjects and perspectives. As a result, frequent moments of silence necessitate an exploration of their significance alongside their spoken lines. The nonverbal silence seems to be related to the character’s lack and unfulfilled desire in the real world. Thus this paper aims to analyze the nonverbal language employed in the play and delve into the inner world of the characters in relation to these moments of silence.
