This study conducted a pilot lesson using a multicultural education textbook developed to enhance multicultural competence for middle school students, and confirmed the changes in multicultural competence of learners accordingly. For this purpose, we conducted a 5-session education for students in the first grade of D Middle School located in Seoul, and examined the changes in multicultural competence and multicultural acceptance. A total of 142 respondents who participated in both the pre- and post-surveys were used for the final analysis, and the main results are as follows. The self-understanding skills, critical thinking skills, creative problem-solving skills, communication skills, and community skills of the students who participated in this program were statistically significantly higher after the class than before the class. In addition, multicultural acceptance was statistically significantly higher after the class than before the class. On the other hand, the situation understanding ability showed a slight increase compared to before the class, but there was no statistically significant difference. This study, as in previous studies on multicultural education, confirmed the effect of enhancing multicultural acceptance of learners by using textbooks developed to enhance multicultural competence, and further verified the change in multicultural competence.
