This paper examines the ideological basis of Inamitsu Remin, which caused the controversy about “the annexation of Korea and Japan” with Uchino Kenji in 1926. The Pioneer Alliance, to which Inamitsu belonged, sponsored discriminated workers and Kansai Koreans. This alliance was based on the slogan “coexistence and co-prosperity of the proletariat” through the international class struggle of workers.
However, this alliance was not involved in the independence of the Korean people from the colony. In his book The Light Comes from Korea, he emphasized the liberation of the working class rather than the liberation of the Korean people. There is a limit to understanding the actual situation of Korean workers in the position of colonial rule. He emphasizes that the governor-general’s industrial development of Joseon, guarantees a bright future for Korean workers. Inamitsu criticized Uchino as “the bourgeoisie that advocates the annexation of Korea and Japan”. However, it reveals his limitations as an intellectual of imperialist Japan, in that it insisted on the coexistence and prosperity of the proletariat, ignoring the “fundamental class differences” between Japanese and colonial Korean workers.
