Changing social and political realities have forced historians to rewrite history from the new points of view afforded by the present. They have also required history educators to revise history courses to make them relevant to the social demands of the time. Historians of every generation have asked new questions of the past, have adopted new points of view, and have shifted their foci so as to give meaning to different experiences of their predecessors. Because the world history curriculum has never transcended the conceptual framework of "Asia vs. Europe", Eurocentrism, together with Sino-centrism, continue to influence the conceptualization of world history by visualizing Europe and China as the two principal centers of cultural creation and diffusion. Today, peoples in every corner of the world have, more than ever, interacted with inescapable intensity. This changing world situation points out the limit of the world history conceptual framework of Asia vs. Europe. High school world history courses and textbooks must be unshackled from the old conceptual framework of world history and give attention to new problems and issues created by increasing cultural pluralism and intensified global interdependence in the present world. Students should have an understanding of world history from a global perspective in order to cope with the intensification of global interdependence today.
