The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic changes of the commuting patterns in Seoul Metropolitan Region for the period of 1980-1995.
Various analyses applied to this study reveal that the commuting distance and the volume of cross as well as reverse commuting between Seoul and its periphery have been considerably increased during the period. These findings imply that the spatial seperation and/or the mismatch between job place and residence has been aggravated, which, in other words, raises the problem of inefficient spatial structure in the Region.
Therefore, it is recommended to develop proper growth control or management strategies for the inducement of more balanced and efficient spatial growth of Seoul Metropolitan Region.
