Banga Sori has diverse and varied melodies depending on regions and functions, Banga Sori, as one of 'Nonmaenen Sori' in Gyeonggi Province(Southern and eastern region of Gyeonggi province), was inquired in this thesis paper.
In conclusion, the Banga Soris of northwestern, eastern, southern regions of Gyeonggi Province are different from each other in their melodies as well as their basic Tori.
The Banga Sori found in northwestern region of Gyeonggi Province is, as it was identified in my master's thesis, rhythmical and melodically well-structured. And its Tori is based on the Susimga Tori, for the northwestern Gyeonggi is under the Susimga Tori influence.
On the other hand, the Banga Sori of eastern Gyeonggi Province is relatively simple and natural. Its basic Tori is Menari, and it is regionally and musically related to the Banga Sori of Gangwon and Gyeongsang Provinces. It has great musical difference from the Banga Sori of norhtwestern region, even though they are from the same province.
And the Banga Sori of southern region in the Gyeonggi Province, centered around the cities of Ansung and Pyeongtaek, is similar to the Sadangpae Sori in its melody, singing method and mood. Therefore it is highly possible that the Banga Sori of this region was born under the influence of Sadangpae. And that this region is Sadangpae's place of origin adds to such possibility. The Banga Sori of this region has southern-Gyeongtori, which has strong Gyeongtori characteristics, as its basic Tori.
In all, the Banga Sori of Gyeonggi Province is largely divided into three different melodies. Each Sori has characteristics reflecting the musical culture of its region.
