This paper explains the cause, the time and the route of immigration of Jeong Shin-Bo, father of Jeong In-Gyoung, focusing on the fact that Jeong In-Gyoung, who was born in Seo-san and held the highest post in Koryo administration, was the second generation of the immigrant from Southern-Sung.
Jeong Shin-Bo immgrated from Zhejiang of Southern-Sung to Seo-San of Koryo in 1237. He traveled along the trade route between Koryo and Southern-Sung and settled in Ganwall-do island of Seo-San. In fact, the circumstances at that time cannot explain the record that Jeong Shin-Bo escaped from Southern-Sung to refuse to yield obedience to Mongolia. I assume that Jung Shin-Bo, the public official of Southern-Sung exiled himself to Koryo in emergency due to a political reason.
Most Koreans are proud of single ethnicity of the nation. However, some people have immigrated and naturalized in Korea through the continued exchanges and wars since the prehistoric times. In particular, it is noteworthy that the western costal area of Chungcheongnam-do, whose traffic route is connected to China, is one of the favored destinations of the settlers.
