This study aims at the review of describing of spoken vocabulary in the monolingual Korean dictionaries and electronic dictionary for the new project of the compilation of Yonsei Contemporary Korean Dictionary. As the monolingual Korean dictionaries, 〈Standard Korean Dictionary〉, 〈Grand North-Korean Dictionary(Joseonmal-Daisa-jean)〉 and 〈Yonsei Korean Dictionary〉 are selected, and as electronic dictionary, the 21st Century Electronic Dictionary is selected. Though it is not a Korean dictionary, as the learner’s dictionary Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English(third edition) is selected because spoken language is fully explained in it by using spoken corpus. The data is based on the using of meta language like these: “as spoken language ~”, “the style of spoken language ~” in definition and other sections.
These dictionaries have many problems as followings: the first, there is no criteria for the construction headwords of spoken vocabulary, the second, some discourse markers have problems in their classifications in relation to the communicative functions, the third, there is no agreement in their use of meta languages, and last it is necessary to study the methods to diversify the usage of spoken language.
