The purpose of this research is to clarify the effects of difference of set training metho of bodybuilding athletes on secretion of growth hormone, and to propose basic data for designing of program that can effectively improve muscle mass of the bodybuilders. The research subjects were chosen to be 24 bodybuilders in their 20s that are preparing to run in local tournament held in some 15 weeks among athletes that accomplished scores of 3rd rank or higher in each weight class in tournaments of metro city or province scale among athletes registered with 'B' metro city bodybuilding association, and were classified randomly by the 8 persons in ascending set group, descending set group and drop set group. As for data processing, paired t-test was performed before and after exercise on growth hormone to verify 12 weeks exercise effects by each set training method by using SPSS 17.0, and to verify the difference by the resistance training method of growth hormone secretion amount after 12 weeks exercise, the research performed covariance analysis among the groups with growth hormone as covariance. The three groups GH(growth hormone), IGF-1 and testosterone all showed significant difference before and after exercise, however Cortisol did not show any change. While GH, IGF-1 and testosterone showed significant difference among the groups after 12 weeks exercise, on GH, drop set group showed significantly higher secretion amount than ascending set group, and on IGF-1 and testosterone, drop set group than ascending set group and descending set group. Cortisol did not show any significant difference among the groups after exercise. Consequently, it is considered that GH, testosterone and IGF-1, which are known as representative hormones that can promote muscle expression and generation, can change by difference of training method among resistance exercise sets, and among these, drop set method is the training method which is relatively more effective in the secretion of growth hormone than ascending set and descending set.
