The purpose of this study is to develop a Christian model of school community through the understanding of school organization from a Christian perspective. For this study, I have critically reviewed educational scholars' discussions on school organization and utilized Biblical and theological discussions on humanity and knowledge, which are the basis of school community.
Biblical perspectives of humanity and knowledge are based on the Christian model of school community. Humans created according to God's image, exist in deep relationships with the Creator and other creatures. Knowledge in a Biblical sense has personal, community, and participative characteristics and leads to responsibility and dedication to others. With the view on humanity and knowledge, a school should be a community, in which students and teachers need each other and make interdependent relationships. In the community, teachers and students experience acceptance and care. In the school as a learning community the school members learn together and grow through dialogue and interaction within personal relationships. The school community needs a democratic structure for decision-making to make learning more effective. In the democratic community, the school members' opinions and discussions are valuable are important in the decision-making process.
Therefore, a Christian model of school community has characteristics of being a caring, learning, and democratic community. A school should be a community of Christian grace. A Christian school community is full of gratitude for God's grace. God's love is shown through the attitude of caring, a desire for learning, and the democratic life of the students and teachers. So, in the school community gratitude is expressed and forgiveness is experienced internally, and, hospitality is emphasized and responsibility is practiced outwardly.
