In Western Europe, the first document that feudal peasants paid labor rent in big group or institutionally appeared in the first half of 8th century. But it was at the beginning of 9th century that the system of classic manor based on labor rent diffused in the important regions of Western Europe.
The labor service of feudal peasants show a tendency to increase continuously since the beginning of 8th century. The imposition of labor service on tenants from slaves was heavier in the 740s than in the 710s owing to the addition of ‘corve(corvada)’. After the general formation of the system of classic manor, the imposition of labor service on feudal peasants grew more and more, no matter who were from slaves or from free men. Especially the burden of labor service increased at least more than twice with the general formation of the system of classic manor, compared with that before the general formation of the system.
The burden of labor service rose in the field of miscellaneous labors services. However, the augmentation in the field of labor service cultivating demesne of landlord was particularly remarkable. Although the imposition of labor service on feudal tenants from slave increased, the imposition of labor service on those from free men increased―centering around cultivating labor service― much heavier than those from slaves.
