To live as a christian in this world means to live divinely as an individual and to live in the church community built on the world. To live as a member of the church community is to keep his own position in the various risks and sufferings of the life on the world. Ephesians4:17-32 says an inevitable demand which should be kept in the life as a member of community while a christian is alive in the world.
This demand turns up as a moral order. It's not simple for the man who got the salvation by grace of Christ’s renewal in the devastation death dominates to live in the hostile world.
The path of spirituality starts from put off an old self (cf. Eph 4:22), and it is to live as a new creation (cf. 2Cor 5:17) by the Spirit of Christ everyday. The spirituality seen from Paul is to put off an old self and put on a new self.(cf. Eph 4:22-24) Also, the path of genuine spirituality in this text doesn’t end up in living divinely as an individual. It shows up the real meaning is to live as a baptized christian with other members of faith community although this world is hostile.
Paul tells spirituality by three steps in Ephesians 4:22
1) to Put off an old self following old traditions
2) to be made new in the attitude of one's mind
3) to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness
Paul tells about the old self and the new self in Ephesians 4:22-32. And the actual order for a moral demand to recover to the new self appears. It should be formed a concept about understandable spirituality from Paul with recognizing that understanding various human individual oppressive factors and getting out from them is the fist step of christian’s spirituality recovery. The moral demand asked to christians appears in Ephesians 4:1-24 and Ephesians 4:25-32 is a description about how to achieve a spiritual life and simultaneously shows a moral demand.
