This paper reveals the aspects in Gods of wealth baojuan described in eleven books, which existed in the 19th century south of the Yangtze River, and tries to understand its social context. The basic narrative type of the Gods of wealth baojuan is ‘Becoming Rich.’ Viewed from the perspective on and the attitude toward the richness, a narrative type in Gods of wealth baojuan can be classified into the following four types: driven-type, coincidence-type, retribution-type, fate-type. Driven-type is wulubaojuan, coincidence-type is xialianghui, piaoyangjubaojuan, yibenwanlibaojuan, retribution-type is xiaozicaishen, hanzhaocai, fuguibaojuan, nongyebaojuan, fate-type is dafubaojuan, nvcaishenbaojuan. The wulubaojuan can be divided into the two subtypes, the first subtype of Gods of wealth is represented by the appearance of gentle merchant, and the second subtype is represented by the traditional Shrine. The wulubaojuan not only reflects the appearance of emerging new social class, but also presents them with social responsibilities to assume. This is the order to distribute what they accumulated wealth to the people. Other coincidence-type, retribution-type and fate-type contain a feudal world view of the people at the time. At the same time, the type of Gods of wealth baojuan clarifies the necessity of the distribution of wealth.
