What has been conspicuous for recent two decade in Korean society is popularization of the studies of history including Korean History through TV media. Facing poignant criticism of postcolonial studies on the traditional roles of the studies of Korean history within the process of South Korea’s nation-state building in the age of globalization from late 90’s and trying to escape from that crisis by ever universalizing capitalism and technology which seemingly look far more globalizing instead of the nation and its values, Korean academia of Korean History, have come to get closely connected with industrial policy of the state, media capital, and it(ict) technology. And through this process, studies of history including Korean history finally have become very popular “cultural contents” commodity and redefined as a particular kind of “entertainment”. First, in this paper, I try to historicize this process in recent 20 years in Korea and take a close look at what has really happened in here. Secondly, then it seeks to analyze this process of capitalization, commodification, industrialization, and technologicalization as historically contextual as possible and to criticize the problems this process inherits. And then, lastly, I will provide post-colonial critique on how these symptoms and connections secretly rule as a dominant power structure in a particular way by talking about ‘politics of depoliticization’ of the studies of Korean History, and hopefully I will try to come up with the possible suggestions to redefine these existing particular relations among the studies of Korean History, state power, media capitalism, and ict technology for more desirable future of the whole society and the academia.
