The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of 16 weeks aerobic exercise and resistance exercise for on insulin resistance factor and adipokine in elderly women. There a lot of advance research, but they didn’t follow the ACSM’s guideline. So, I want to figure out when follow the ACSM’s guideline. A total of 37 elderly female participants who live in G-gu, Busan metropolitan city were recruited for the study. The participants were randomly assigned into an aerobic exercise group (n=14; age 71.8±4.9), resistance exercise group (n=13; age 75.1±6.0) and a control group (n=10; age 75.3±4.7). The aerobic exercise group were instructed to walk on a treadmill (gait speed 1-8 weeks 4.4±0.5 km/h, 9-16 weeks 5.1±0.7 km/h, 1-8 weeks 24.9±12.2%HRR, 9-16 weeks 41.2±15.3%HRR) three times a week for 40 minutes for 16 weeks. The resistance exercise group were trained for use resistance program (1-8 weeks 30-49% 1RM, 9-16 weeks 50- 69% 1RM) for 40 minutes three times a week for 16 weeks. There were no significant differences and interaction for insulin resistance factor in glucose. Also there were no significant differences and interaction in the level of insulin. The HOMA-IR showed no significant difference but there was a significant interaction. For the adipokine factor, IL-6 and TNF-α were showed significant differences. The results suggest that for insulin resistance factor and adipokine, low and moderate intense exercise is effective at inducing change. However for positive changes in elderly women, more exercise may be needed to improve.
