This paper examines woman metaphors collected from Corpus of Contemporary American English in an attempt to overcome limitations of previous studies on woman metaphors. Previously, woman metaphors were examined out of the context from the perspective of men. Also, woman metaphors in previous studies were focused on either the source domain or the target domain as well as limited to conventional metaphors. Thus, this study tries to look at cases using woman both as the source domain and as the target domain including non-conventional metaphors through data which are not biased by any specific gender and are considered under the context. The investigation reveals many interesting observations and insights, in the respect that they can be classified based on great chain of beings, where singularity or plurality of the source domain or the target domain plays an important role. Also, it is found that the observations of this paper are further supported by a survey examination on woman metaphors.
