Based on the mid-term examination papers of CSL1 from 2016 to 2018, this paper investigates the tone acquisition of Korean learners. The results are as follows:
First, Korean learners have the best acquisition of the 4th tone. Second, the acquisition of the 2nd tone is the most difficult. The confusion of the 2nd and 3rd tones is obvious.
Based on the analysis of statistical data and the author’s 15 years of teaching experience, this paper puts forward three suggestions for tone teaching.
First, following the principle of ‘easy to difficult’, the teaching order of tones should be changed to the 1st tone→the 4th tone→the 3rd tone→the 2nd tone. Second, we should use the five level tone mark to carry out the tone teaching throughout the course. Thirdly, we should strengthen the contrast training for the tones which are easy to be misidentified.
