The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of residential environment satisfaction on health among tenants living in publicly purchased properties, while testing the mediating effect of neighborhood cohesion and the moderating effect of duration of residence. The data for analysis were obtained from “A Study on the Supply and Management of Publicly Purchased Property in Seoul 2018”. Structural equation modeling was employed to analyze the data of 540 participants residing in 270 publicly purchased properties across Seoul. The findings indicated that residential environment satisfaction had direct positive effects on health and neighborhood cohesion, neighborhood cohesion had a direct positive effect on health, and residential environment satisfaction had an indirect positive effect on health through neighborhood cohesion, thereby confirming the mediating role of neighborhood cohesion. Moreover, the positive relationship between neighborhood cohesion and health was greater among those who occupied the current housing for a longer period of time, thereby partly confirming the moderating role of duration of residence. Based on the findings, policy implications for the publicly purchased property program were discussed in the areas of the improvement of residential environment, housing management and operation, and community revitalization.
