The objective of this study was to examine perceptions of ‘Dokdo’ in elementary school students, targeting 252 third and sixth graders in an elementary school. Students were asked to draw and explain images of Dokdo. After classifying the collected drawings of Dokdo by type, semantic network analysis and concor analysis were conducted to extract key words. These keywords were then visualized and clustered. Study results are as follows. First, drawings were classified into the type expressing Dokdo above the sea, the type expressing a dispute with Japan, the type focusing on natural and humanities elements and other types. Second, according to concor analysis conducted to measure structural equivalence through correlations, there were four clusters named as Korean territory, a dispute with Japan, natural and humanities, and physical composition. Third, the difference in perception of Dokdo by grade was not big. Based on these results, this study suggested the necessity of elementary Dokdo education focusing on diverse experiences and activities with detailed educational directions.
