The continuous contact and interaction between wheel and rail causes cracks and wear of railway rails. Moreover, since the damaged surface of the rail increases noise and vibration, reduces riding comfort, and can cause railway accidents, the rail head and its surface should be maintained through continuous monitoring and observation. In this study, we investigated the rail surface grinding methods and analyzed effects on rail wear. In particular, the change in corrugation was observed by measuring the surface roughness of the rails at every three months for curved lines of urban railways, where corrugation is rapidly developing. In addition, the effect of the grinding operation by the rail grinding train performed during the measurement period was analyzed. As a result, it was verified that the amplitude of the rail wear decreased by more than about 5 ㏈ after grinding, but gradually increased upon the operation of the train after that. Additionally, there was also difference in spectrum attenuation according to the wavelength ranges for rail maintenance. Therefore, it was confirmed that the quality control of the rail requires accurate control of the grinding depths according to the characteristics of the rail surface roughness and the wavelength ranges in interest.
