본 연구에서는 고속도로의 혼잡도와 교통사고의 관계를 분석하고, 예비타당성조사 표준지침(제6판)에서 제시한 대로 차로수가 증가하면 교통사고 원단위가 감소하는지 확인하고자 한다. 분석을 위해 고속도로 9개 노선 1,805km 220개 IC구간을 선정하였으며, 해당 구간의 최근 3년간 교통사고 발생건수, 사망자수, 부상자수 자료를 수집하였다. 도로혼잡도 지표로는 도로계획 단계에서 적용이 가능하도록 일교통량 기준의 V/C(LOS)를 선정하였다.
