The 1990s are recorded as the era of explosive popular music growth in the history of Korean pop music. This is the result of domestic economic growth, the worldwide wave of liberal democracy, and the development of science and technology. In the 90’s, starting with dance genre, other various genres, such as Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, and Techno were introduced. In addition, large entertainment management companies were established and began to train idol through systematic system. Popular music has become the heart of the entertainment industry. It was possible because 90’s Korean pop music never stopped trying new things and challenges. This thesis attempted to examine in the process of researching the audience of 90’s pop music, how the situation of the time was accepted and applied to the public. Through this study, not simply listing the trends of music and consumption from the time, but what needs actually caused the result. It will also enhance understanding of the common historical experience that led to this desire. The text analyzed the 90’s Korean pop music consumer by dividing them into four parts: the rise of the new generation, the emergence of fandom and indie culture, and the acceptance of older generation. These four parts played an independent and organic role, interacting with each other. Since the 1990’s, the Korean pop music industry has changed rapidly because of the digitalization of the music market. Therefore, the study of Korean pop music consumer after 90’s will require a more specific and approach.
