The beginning of life is the beginning of death. Death is always inseparable from our life. Death allows a brief division between the dead and the being, but eventually has the possibility to remind everyone of their death. The death of others makes me focus on my death. And it is also a reflection that makes me look back on my life. Death has a meaningful connection that can be based on life. However, in the current medicalized and civilized situation, our perception of death shows quite contrast, unlike the familiar appearance of the past. In addition, as the distance from death widens through the extension of the average life expectancy, the passive attitude toward death tends to be further strengthened and spread. Fortunately, a new critical mind and perspective on death are also emerging, and at the same time, there is a movement in preparation and education for death. This movement of dying well is linked not only to the position of death and preparation for death, but also to the concept of well-being for a better and balanced life. Therefore, it is now necessary to think about the perspective of dying well in relation to the part for a better life and not limited to death. In particular, the ‘Existentielle Kommunikation’ that Jaspers said at this time can be recognized as an element that expands our biased thinking about death. ‘Existentielle Kommunikation’ aimed at being open to each other for myself and you, and the situation that enables that communication can be confirmed near death. At the same time, it is also a work that takes various symbols of our biased toward death.

삶의 시작은 곧 죽음의 시작이다. 죽음은 언제나 인간의 삶과 불가분의 관계에 놓여있다. 죽음은 떠난 사람과 남겨진 사람의 구분을 잠시간 허락하기는 하지만 결국 모두의 죽음을 상기시킨다. 다른 이의 죽음은 다시 나의 죽음에 초점을 맞추게 하고, 삶의 조건들을 하나씩 돌아보게 만드는 성찰과 반성의 역할을 다할 수 있게 된다. 죽음은 그렇게 다시 삶에 바탕이 될 수 있는 유의미한 연결성을 갖게 되는 것이다. 그러나 의료화 되고 문명화된 작금의 상황 속에서 죽음에 대한 우리의 인식은 과거와는 사뭇 대조적인 모습을 보여주고 있다. 또한 평균수명의 연장을 통해 죽음과의 거리가 더욱 벌어지게 되면서 죽음에 대한 소극적 태도 역시 강화‧확산되는 추세이다. 다행인 부분은 죽음에 대한 새로운 문제의식과 관점 역시 발현되고 있다는 점이며, 동시에 죽음에 대한 준비 및 교육의 움직임도 일어나고 있다는 것이다. 이 같은 웰다잉의 움직임은 죽음과 죽음 준비에 대한 입장만이 아니라 더 잘 살기 위한, 균형 있는 삶을 위한 웰빙의 개념과도 연결된다. 따라서 이제 웰다잉에 대한 관점을 죽음에만 국한시키는 것이 아니라 더 잘살기 위한, 좋은 삶을 위한 부분들과 연관지어 생각해볼 필요가 있다. 특히 이때 야스퍼스가 말한 실존적 의사소통은 죽음에 관한 우리의 편벽한 사고를 확장시킬 수 있는 중요한 요소가 될 수 있다. 나의 나됨과 너의 너 됨을 위한 서로에 대한 열어젖힘을 골자로 하는 실존적 의사소통 그리고 그 소통을 가능케 하는 상황을 죽음 근처에서 확인할 수 있다는 것이다. 이는 동시에 죽음에 대한 우리의 치우친 상징을 다채롭게 가져가는 작업이 될 수 있다.
