As more children are spending longer time at childcare centers from young age, childcare teachers are increasingly complaining of difficulties in dealing with problematic behaviors of borderline children.
Borderline children are not classified as disabled but have non-categorized risk factors for disability so that it is important to detect them early on and mediate them at proper time. Problems in emotions and behaviors during early childhood are closely related to psychological disabilities after childhood and can bring about social isolation. Major influential factors of problematic behaviors are children’s characteristics of temperament and parenting environment. For effective correction of problematic behaviors, appropriate intervention of childcare teachers and cooperation of parents are important. However, many parents mistrust childcare teaching staff’s consultation and advice and avoid dealing with their children’s problematic behaviors; children are neglected and teachers are burned out. Thus this study suggests the issues and solutions on correcting problematic behaviors of borderline children at childcare centers.
