The video content industry, which had developed centered on public broadcasting and cable broadcasting, began to change through a new digital platform as it entered the digital network era. The expansion of the high-speed network made it possible to transmit large-capacity and high-definition video, and the digital platform service centered on it received the spotlight through direct user-centered interaction, unlike the existing broadcasting based on OTT. It exhibits overwhelming scalability. YouTube has made it possible to create small-scale content centered on personal broadcasting by taking advantage of its global platform strengths, while Netflix has established itself as a global content platform with vast contents centered on movies, animations, and documentaries. New global platforms such as Disney Plus, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV have already appeared and are in fierce competition, and domestic platforms such as Watcha, Wave, and Coupang Play are also entering the platform competition. In the case of the domestic animation industry, which had an industrial structure centered on existing terrestrial broadcasters, it was activated through policy support such as terrestrial broadcasters" total broadcasting system. and structural coping. As the emergence and competition of various platforms promotes content consumption, domestic animation producers may be given new creative opportunities. It must be recognized that it is an important point in which even survival as a content industry can become opaque.

공영방송과 케이블 방송 등을 중심으로 발전하던 영상콘텐츠 산업은 디지털 네트워크시대에 접어들면서 새로운 디지털 플랫폼을 통해 변화를 시작하였다. 초고속 네트워크의 확장은 대용량과 고화질의 영상전송을 가능하게 하였고 이를 중심으로 한 디지털 플랫폼 서비스는 OTT를 기반으로 기존의 방송과 달리 사용자 중심의 직접적인 상호작용을 통해 각광받으며 이전의 방송시스템과 산업구조들을 압도할 정도의 확장성을 보여주고 있다. 유튜브는 글로벌 플랫폼의 장점을 살려 개인방송중심의 소규모 콘텐츠 제작자를 가능하게 하였고 넷플릭스는 영화, 애니메이션, 다큐멘터리 등을 중심으로 막대한 콘텐츠들을 통해 세계적인 콘텐츠 플랫폼으로 자리 잡았다. 이미 디즈니 플러스, 아마존 프라임, 애플TV 등 새로운 글로벌 플랫폼들이 등장하여 치열한 경쟁 중이며, 왓챠, 웨이브, 쿠팡플레이 등 국내 플랫폼 역시 이러한 플랫폼 경쟁에 뛰어들고 있다. 기존의 지상파 방송사를 중심으로 산업구조가 형성되었던 국내 애니메이션 산업의 경우 지상파 방송사의 방송 총량제와 같은 정책적 지원을 통해 활성화 되고 있었지만 플랫폼의 변화와 콘텐츠 소비자들의 이동은 국내 애니메이션 제작사들에게도 빠른 변화에 대한 대응과 구조적인 대처라는 숙제를 안겨주었다. 다양한 플랫폼들의 등장과 경쟁은 콘텐츠의 소비를 촉진시키는 만큼 국내 애니메이션 제작사들에게는 새로운 창작의 기회가 주어질 수 있으나, 플랫폼들의 장점과 소비자들의 특성을 분석하고 이에 맞는 대안으로 변화할 수 있는 콘텐츠 제작방안 없이는 콘텐츠 산업으로서의 생존까지도 불투명해질 수 있는 중요한 시점임을 인식해야만 할 것이다.
