Pyeonghwa Nuri-trail opened on May 8, 2010, connecting four cities and counties, Gimpo City (3 course), Goyang City (2 course), Paju City (4 course), and Yeoncheon-gun (3 course), which is the northernmost joint road in Korea, and the number of users increased significantly due to COVID-19.
As the number of users of Pyeonghwa Nuri-trail increased significantly to 29% compared to the same month in 2020, the number of users of Pyeonghwa Nuri-trail was 314,154 (as of June 2021), and it is necessary to actively discover, promote, and prepare measures for the operation of Pyeonghwa Nuri-trail.
The main contents of the study were analyzed the current status and resources of the surrounding areas, and prior studies and related plans were reviewed, and local and overseas cases were used to find regional linkage and project promotion measures.
Implications from domestic and foreign cases include ① a project method led by private organizations, ② a walking path beyond the meaning of religious pilgrimage, and ③ a walking path for local residents and with the region.
The implications of Pyeonghwa Nuri-trail through case analysis are ① necessary to develop storytelling and content through research on cultural and ecological heritage, ② necessary to develop a system for resource protection and a program to promote responsible travel culture, ③ explanation and publicity of resources around the walking path need to prepare a system for tourism, ④ installation of multilingual course information signs for foreign tourists, ⑤ development of a stay-type tour program rather than a pass-through walking course, ⑥ active participation of local communities to promote walking routes.
In the development plan of Pyeonghwa Nuri-trail and surrounding areas, 8 promotion plans and 22 promotion tasks were established under 3 promotion strategies according to the vision and goals.
