Purpose: This study was to determine the overall appearance of nurses by the general public. Methods: Cross-sectional design and structured questionnaires related to images for nurses were employed. A total of 295 people participated in this study. The data were analyzed using t-test and one-way ANOVA. Results: The images for nurses were scored at 98.62 out of 145. The top two images were ‘neat & clean’ and ‘valuable & rewarding job’, while the two low ranked images were ‘assistant of doctor’ and ‘performing independent nursing’. People viewed nurses as professionals; however, they also perceived nurses were assisting doctors and not implementing independent nursing care. Conclusion: Therefore we need to develop contents that will help nurses improve professional capacity within clinical fields, continuously monitor the overall images of nurses, and provide positive images through mass media.
