H₂O₂, one of the reactive oxygen species (ROS), can cause various diseases, including age-related conditions, and damage myocardial cells. However, the effect of protecting H9c2 cell death induced by oxidative stress of Tenebrio molitor larvae extracts (TME) has not been demonstrated. TME-treated H9c2 cells demonstrated the ability to induce antioxidant activity and enhanced viability of H9c2 cells exposed to H₂O₂. This can be suppressed by TME treatment of cell apoptosis caused by intracellular Bcl-family proteins (Bax and Bcl-2) and caspase pathways. TME-treated H9c2 cells showed restored antioxidant enzyme (catalase and superoxide dismutase) expression via H₂O₂ and antioxidant signaling pathways (heme oxygenase-1 and NF-E2-related factor 2) following H₂O₂ treatment. These results indicate that the TME suppresses oxidative stress and has a protective effect on myocardial cells.
