The aim of this paper is to clarify Aristotle’s misunderstanding on Plato’s paradigm through Agamben’s restoration of Plato’s paradigm and to demonstrate the Aristotle’s misunderstanding has been repeated in the Western ethics and politics as shown in Jacques Derrida and Slavoj Žižek. Linguistic birth with Plato’s paradigm could be expressed in ‘gramma the gramma itself.’ The linguistic birth of gramma is the gramma itself. Gramma which can ‘be said’ as gramma is the gramma itself. With the misunderstanding that the gramma itself is just a repetition of gramma, Aristotle excludes the gramma itself and instead places gramma which stands for or represents the gramma itself. Aristotle’s gramma is the rational language which turns humans into political animals. Aristotle’s politics is a biopolitics based on the exception or ‘inclusive exclusion’ of life without the rational language. The Western ethics and politics following this Aristotle’s gramma tradition cannot basically escape from the biopolitical frame. While Aristotle’s tradition founded upon relations set up through exception is ‘gramma-ethics-politics,’ paradigm which renders inoperative relation by exception turns it into ‘gramma itself ethics itself politics itself.’ Discussions on the Western ethics and politics have been always returning to the issue of gramma and the gramma itself. By rendering gramma inoperative, Agamben restores the gramma itself and searches for ethics and politics based on the gramma itself.
