In Greek mythology, the human world and the afterlife are strictly separated. On the other hand, in Korean mythology, gods appear between this world and the afterlife. Representative entities include Bari from 〈Princess Bari〉 and Ganglim from 〈Chasabonpuri〉. Previous studies mainly looked at the mythological meanings and perspectives on the underworld/death shown in these people’s underworld adventures and travels. On the other hand, this study attempted to examine the view of death in Korean mythology through the occurrence of various death incidents in mythological texts and the relationship between death incidents, that is, the intersection of human death and divine death that seeks to resolve it. Human death in the mythical world is God’s punishment for humans and a gateway to growth. On the other hand, divine death is a way to examine the cause of human death and solve death as a problem, and is an opportunity for ontological change to become a god. Specifically, the shamanic myths 〈Chasabonpuri〉 and 〈Princess Bari〉 give the concept of ‘justice’ to the continuity of life and death or the principle by which the events of life and death are composed. During human life, one must act righteously based on the standards of right and wrong, and if one is greedy, he or she will be punished by death. In this process, we can see that life and death are causal and cyclical, and are linked to concerns about how humans should live. The aspects of death that appear in the shamanic myths 〈Princess Bari〉 and 〈Chasabonpuri〉, such as violent death, punitive death, and instrumental death, are a world of shamanic mythology that unravels the origin of justice through the occurrence of various death incidents and their relationships. 그리스 신화에서 이승과 저승은 엄격하게 분리되어 있다. 이승과 저승 사이에는 스틱스강이 흐르며 이 강을 이동하는 뱃사공 카론만이 이승과 저승을 이동할 수 있다. 그러나 카론은 스틱스강 안에 멈춰있는 존재이다. 반면 한국 신화에서 신적 존재들은 경계를 이월(移越)하는 자들로서 이승과 저승을 이동한다. 그 대표적인 존재가 〈바리공주〉의 바리와 〈차사본풀이〉의 강림이다. 선행 연구들에서는 주로 이들의 모험과 이계 여행을 대상으로 신화적 의미와 저승 의식을 고찰했다면, 본 연구에서는 신화 텍스트에 나타난 다양한 죽음 사건의 양상과 죽음 사건 간의 관계 즉 인간적 죽음과 이를 해결하려는 신적 죽음의 교차를 통해 한국 신화의 죽음관을 고찰하였다. 신화적 세계 속 인간적 죽음은 인간에 대한 신의 징벌이자 성장을 위한 관문이다. 반면 신적 죽음은 인간적 죽음의 원인을 살피고 문제로서의 죽음을 해결하고자 하는 방법이자 신이 되기 위한 존재론적 변화의 계기이다. 구체적으로, 무속 신화 〈바리공주〉와 〈차사본풀이〉는 삶과 죽음의 연속성이나 삶과 죽음이라는 사건이 구성되는 원리에 ‘정의’ 관념을 부여하고 있다. 인간의 살아생전에는 옳고 그름의 기준에서 옳은 행동을 해야 하며 개인의 욕심으로 타인을 해하는 경우 죽음으로서 벌을 받게 된다는 것이다. 이러한 과정에서 한국 신화 속 삶과 죽음은 인과적이고 순환적인 관계를 이루며 인간은 어떻게 살아가야 하는가에 대한 고민을 중심으로 연결된다는 것을 알 수 있다. 무속 신화 〈바리공주〉와 〈차사본풀이〉에 나타난 징후적 죽음, 수단적 죽음, 폭력적 죽음, 징벌적 죽음 그리고 환생의 순환 구조는 무속 신화의 세계가 다양한 죽음 사건의 발생과 그 관계성을 통해 정의의 기원을 풀어내고 있음을 알려준다.
