This study was performed to investigate the effects of Paecilomyces japonica supplementation and swimming on CPT-1 and antioxidant activity in diet-induced hypercholesterolemic rats. Thirty-five male Sprague-Dawley rats were given five different types of diets for a succeeding period of seven weeks; either a high fat diet (CON), a high fat diet and 4% fruiting body(HF), a high fat diet and 4% mycelium(HM), a high fat diet and 4% fruiting body plus swimming exercise(HFS) or a high fat diet and 4% mycelium plus swimming (HMS). The CPT-1 activity, HFS and HMS were significantly increase compared with those fed the high fat diet(CON) and HF and HM were higherd CPT-1 activity level slightly. In the skeletal muscle, the MDA concentration of all groups were tended to be lower than control group but HF were not significantly. The activity of antioxidant(GPX, SOD) were not different among P. japonica supplemented groups. However swimming exercise groups were significantly increase compared the other group. The activities CAT were not generally different among all groups. These results showed that P. japonica supplementation was partially improved of CPT-1 activity and reduced the risk of lipid peroxidation. Besides we suggest that for seven weeks swimming exercise was effectively improved oxidative stress of muscle tissue.
