This tractate deals with the God and Godhead-understanding of Meister Eckhart. The God and Godhead of Eckhart are the theological principle term Eckhart's in the German Works. Eckhart distinguishes the Godhead from the God as heaven and earth. Here first, I concentrate on following notions of Godhead: God as "Unum" (One), God as "indistinctio" (indistinction), nameless God and awareness of Godhead. Second, I talk about the life of the son of God according to his understanding of the Godhead.
The God as Unum (One) means an unity. The One is not a countable number and the spring and ground of all numbers. Through negative theology tells Eckhart us the Godhead as number beyond number. And the God as indistinctio (indistinction) is the One, the essence of God and infiniteness. Eckhart does not identify the God as indistinction with all creatures. The Godhead of God is entirely different from the characters of all creatures. The Godhead of God is the negation of negation and a nothingness beyond all descriptions. Therefore the Godhead of God does not have his names. The God as "Abgrund" (endless ground) is nameless God and name without name. The name of God is a Quietness ("Schweigen") and stillness beyond all words and preaching. For our awareness of "deus absconditus (Gottheit)", we must understand God as Not-God, Not-Person, Not-Form and Not-Spirit.
By the grace of God we become the son of God through the birth of God in our soul. The son of God lives in God, with God and through God. The son of God moves toward God because God lures his children by his love and he leads them in his unity. In the unity between the son of God and God by the birth of Jesus Christ in his soul, the son of God is the righteous man. So the son of God lives as the righteous man, without special Methods ("ohne Weise"), without special Why ("ohne Warurn"), in the unity of epistemological indistinction between the son of God and God and in the unity of "vita contemplativa" (contemplation) und "vita activa" (practice). The son of God lives freely from his ground and essence of existence. Because the son of God is one with the Godhead of God (the One). The son of God follows the way of peace and he practices the love of God.
