This article studies segment point of opening sequence as a beginning part of the narrative. Before 1960"s, Opening title sequence comparability simply recited pictures that included minimum level of readability text. Therefore, it was treated an adjunct rather than a part of film. Opening title sequence has developed in terms of graphic design since Saul Bass, Kyle Cooper and more designer"s showed their remarkable works. For that reason, most of the study regarding opening title sequence of film have been dealing with it as a different creative work.
This article would like to point out that existing studies about opening sequence analyze it as independent structure unit which is separated from whole narrative. Accordingly, this study considers conceptual definition of opening sequence is based on identity as a introduction belongs to a part of whole narrative.
Opening sequence compressively suggest and reflect entire narrative will come, and it is a focused point to show inherent and distinct ability of film. The questions is from where to where should be called opening sequence. At that time, title sequence is belongs to opening sequence. Not only to divide opening sequence by the position of title sequence but also to set the break point of opening sequence as the beginning of entire narrative. Opening sequence includes title sequence, the most important thing is the starting point where the actual diegesis image provides. Which means the sequence that using totally different expression technique because it is produced separately from a feature, that would be excluded from opening sequence. This definition is based on premise that opening sequence is always working for entire narrative. The episode in opening sequence should be in continuos relationship with entire narrative. it should be continuos relationship narratively or should have visual continuity.
It is impossible to set strict boundary of opening sequence because narrative is organic actually. Furthermore, esthetic of constantly changing film does not allow fixed conceptual definition. Nevertheless, this effort will contribute to make consider an in-depth study of film. In order to interpret, thorough analysis will come first and analysis will be started from precise concept.
