1930s colonial society was already in developing phase of the capitalism. The era of 1930s had a social atmosphere of pursuing sexual and worldly desires. Yeom sang-sup’s novel, Morankkotpilttae, is published in the mid 1930s, which show colonial society was driven by such desires. The life in colonial capitalism is shown through Yeom sang-sup’s detailed description of the life of contemporary people and society.
According to ‘Desir triangulaire (Triangle of desire)’ by R. Girard, the subject projects his desire by ‘mediateur (mediator)’ instead of his desire for the object itself. This study argues that Yeom’s works follow composition of triangle of desire, showing snobbism in the contemporary society. Characters in Yeom’s novel are both subjects and mediators. They are imitative and competitive each other. The snob is a perfect example in QED. Snobbism is excellent direction to illustrate desires of colonial capitalism, because the desires of the subjects are revealed by contemporary people. Colonial people blindly imitated mediator’s appearance and action who got a stability occupations, studies and marriages.
