The Virtual Reality field using the Head Mounted Display is getting attention in various fields such as education, media as well as games. As of 2018, there are three types of VR device, Google Cardboard type that simply displays VR images separated from the smartphone app using a paper or plastic box, Smart device type that run VR app independently using controller like Oculus RIft and HTC VIVE which use characteristics of smart device and PC connecting type which can detect motion in three dimensions which connected to PC such as Oculus Rift and HTC VIVE. Among the smart device type, Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Home which is an interface of Oculus Go were selected as the subject to analyze the configuration of interface.
The contents of the study were analyzed on the composition and placement of each menu of the home page in terms of visual aspect, instrumental aspect, and informational aspect, to propose effective menu configuration. As a result, the main menu configuration divided into navigation, people, sharing, notifications, and settings showed that the menu depth was very shallow and the consistency of menus was insufficient compared to all the depth. The most essential ‘RESET VIEW’ was located in the submenu of the setting in spite that it is technically necessary to set the reference of the three-dimensional axis from time to time. In the information aspect, the lack of the help function hinders the smooth use of the initial user, and it is difficult to reflect the taste of the skilled user due to the uniform menu structure that the user can not intervene.
Based on the results, this study proposed to re-classify the main menu into four areas of Navigation, Social space, Management, and Users menu, so that the menu depths for the submenus of each menu are arranged at a similar level and to place View Reset and Help at front and include the Users menu. In addition, the study proposed to reconfigure the navigation - home screen, which is the first contact when using it for independent layout and effective use of each menu.
