In Harold Innis’s books 〈The Bias of Communication〉 (1951) and 〈Empire and Communications〉 (1950), he demonstrated the bias theory of media. Novels and animations are two different media. They interact with the audience in different ways. The active areas of the brain that are activated and the art experience are also completely different. This different experience is just the bias produced in the process of media conversion. When analyzing text media and animation media based on Harold Innis’ bias theory of communication, it can be found that there are similarities between the two parties, which makes it possible to convert between them. But as different media, the two have their own characteristics and biases. At the beginning of its birth, because new art has just emerged, animation must learn from the experience of other existing art forms to enrich itself. “An art can never suddenly appear in front of us without any theoretical basis. It must absorb the nutrients of existing human knowledge and quickly digest them. The great thing about animation is that it’s a combination of many arts.” It can be seen that animation is not only an important channel of franchise storytelling, but also an important carrier of visual symbol conversion. At the same time, it is a collection of cross-media communication in various historical stages and various art forms. On the other hand, as a kind of mainstream art for a long time, literature profoundly and extensively reflects the complicated life contradictions and emotional experiences in people’s life. Therefore, the classic literary works with a broad mass base in China have become the best source of materials which are used for adapted into animation. And it has formed a continuous trend of “adaptation of literature into animation” in Chinese animation industry. As a result, the accurate grasp and research of this bias can make us control the animation film more accurately. The impact brought by the bias of communication will be minimized in the process of media conversion.
