As the multicultural population of Korean society rapidly increases, adaptation of adolescents in multicultural families has emerged as an important issue. In order to examine the effect of acculturation types on multicultural adolescents’ school adaptation, this study focused on the moderating effect of the mainstream society, not only considering the personal adaptation. Cluster analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, and interaction analysis were performed using the 1-8th wave of ‘Multicultural Adolescents Panel Survey(MAPS)’, and the results are as follows: First, the acculturation types of multicultural adolescents are classified into integration, assimilation, separation, and marginalization based on the acceptance level of dual culture. The level of school adaptation of the integration and assimilation type, which have high acceptance of Korean culture, was high. This implies that the space ‘school’ functions for the social integration of members. Second, it was observed that school adaptation according to the type of acculturation remarkably vary depending on the relationship between teachers and peers, who are the pivotal mainstream groups in mainstream society. These findings show that multicultural adolescents are not only affected by individual differences but also by the acceptance of the mainstream group. Based on this study, it is intended to present the basis for setting a new direction of multicultural adolescents policies in Korea. It also suggested that Korean society needs a new approach from a multicultural acceptance, social inclusion, and recognition perspective in the future.
