The concept of “transmedia storytelling” has been attracting significant attention worldwide. There are many studies and case studies on the topic, and, apparently, attempts have been made to converge on existing cases. However, overall, it is still one-source-multi-use (OSMU). This study emphasizes the lack of choice except OSMU, and from a long-term perspective, the inevitability of transmedia storytelling. The concept of transmedia storytelling—extensively studied worldwide—was established and advocated by media scholar Henry Jenkins. Currently, research is being conducted to re-establish its applicability. Particularly, the need for industrial application was visualized by highlighting the unique characteristics of transmedia storytelling through comparison with OSMU or crossmedia storytelling. This study suggests that the application of transmedia storytelling is an imperative and crucial choice for the entertainment industry, not merely a content expansion mechanism. It is legitimate to consider its composition an integrated, organic, and systematic world building rather than simple connections of independent narratives.
