Using methods of conversation analysis and stimulated recall, this study investigates the organization and decisions of L2 learners" self-repair in conversations between Korean learners of English. The analysis showed L2 self-repairs emerged in the organizational contexts of same turn, turn-transition space, and third turn in relation to the trouble spot. Among these contexts, same-turn self-repairs were most prevalent. Additionally, cutoff and no device comprised the two most frequently employed devices in moments of self-repair initiation. when examined for the decisions behind self-repairs, the stimulated recalls revealed the L2 learners constantly monitored their production being highly attentive to immediate repair of one"s utterances for correctness across the identified organizational contexts. Such decisions seem to account for the high number of occurrences of same-turn self-repairs and the frequent use of the two self-repair initiation devices in this context.
