Since the first terminological movement in Korea such as the establishment of KORTERM or Terminology Standardization Project of Hakchong, more than 15 years have passed and many studies on terminological work have been carried out. But most of these studies have focused on the prescriptive and institutional aspects of terminology and left a little bit behind divers theoretical issues presently argued. This article introduces some perspectives concerning the fundamental notions of Terminology theory, contrasting the traditional position(wusterian approach) and the anti-wusterian points of view of terminology. Priority of concept, onomasiological method, univocity and monoreferentiality of term are the principles that defend most of the traditional theorists. These are also the main target of which many contemporary terminologists like socioterminologist or socio-cognitivists criticize for ignoring the linguistic characters of term. These fervent opponents claim that the concepts are not objective nor clear-cut so that the conceptualization of specific concept depends on socio-cultural boundaries of linguistic community, and that the polysemy and fuzzy categories are helpful for understanding specialized concepts. From this, it can be derived that a term is an unit of thought or an unit of knowledge, as agreed by traditional terminologists, as well as a linguistic unit and also an unit of cognition and understanding.
