The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Pilates mat work on the health-related fitness of women in puerperium. Puerperium women at postpartum care center of a lying-in hospital located in B Metropolitan City participated in this study and divided into exercise and control group, consisting of 9 and 8 members respectively. Pilates mat work was applied to the exercise group for 7 weeks with 3 days a week, RPE 11-15 and 40-60 minutes per day. Independent t-test(between groups) and paired t-test(within group) were used for data analysis. Based on results of the application compared health-related fitness(cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition) were compared between two groups. As result of the within-group comparison, it was found that after Pilates mat work, the exercise group showed improvements in cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility and reduction in percent body fat. Both between-group and within-group comparisons showed that after the exercise, muscular endurance improved in part of the exercise group. While, the control group showed improvement in cardiovascular in accordance with the within-group comparison. In conclusion, Pilates mat work in an exercise that is effective in improving the health-related fitness of puerperium women. This indicates that Piltes mat work can be positively used as a part of postpartum exercise program.
