The national features of ceremonial behavior in ethnic cultures of China, Korea and Japan are analyzed in the context of the traditional ritual called “feast by the meandering stream”, accompanied by the ritual of wine-drinking and impromptu. The spiritual potential of these rituals can be seen throughout important sociocultural functions related to ceremonial activities, religious and magical practices, and social life. It allows the identification of patterns of intercultural interaction of ethnic cultures of East Asia both in past and present times. Based on numerous historical sources we can consider an extent of the transformation of the role of traditional intellectual entertainment and procedural art, serving as individuals’ ways of socializing. The transformation of traditional rituals and entertainment for the modern societies of the East Asian region are outlined.
