Recently, there has been a renewed and steady interest in the pedagogical implication of flipped learning in the field of second language education, especially in many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. Based on one of the flipped learning methods, CLD(Creative Learning by Doing) that our university has developed, the main purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of flipped learning on EFL learners’ motivation and improvement in English learning. In order to achieve this goal, this study not only analyzes questionnaires designed to gather information about satisfaction and efficacy of CLD from 968 freshmen who enrolled in a CLD-based English course, but also it conducts a comparative analysis on their TOEIC scores from the previous lecture-based course. The findings show that flipped learning has a positive influence on students’ learning motivation and course satisfaction as well as the improvement of TOEIC score. Based on this result, this study highlights the importance of flipped learning and suggests essential factors for creating a flipped classroom.
