The acting of animation characters is the most important aesthetic component for successful storytelling, as in the field of theater and film, and it can be said that it is an essential element that enables abundant semantic action in animation storytelling. As the animation industry has been advanced, the awareness of the importance of animation character acting has been expanded. In fact, academics and industry are trying various approaches to strengthen related education and practical capabilities. And this study explains the aesthetic differentiation of such animation character acting through the characteristics of ‘hyper-reality’ which implies freedom from natural law, ‘timing’ for realizing realistic movement, ‘exaggeration’ and ‘typifying’ for strengthening reality, and it can be said to be the theoretical foundation for understanding the aesthetic identity of animation. In particular, this study was conducted through a comparative study between the theater and the film field, where acting expression is used as an important storytelling element. Therefore, the value and importance of this study can be found in that it has provided a theoretical basis for expanding the research area of animation character acting academically. In addition, it is expected that such research results will provide various research perspectives in the future.
