Report Errors
Most articles about `traditional music education and personality education` in Korea have been based on an idea that personality education might be successfully practiced by means of traditional music education. Although there have been various discussion about the conception and philosophy of personality education, especially about the risk of compulsory assignment into public education system, there has been only naive wishful thinking for personality education in the discipline of traditional music education. Traditional music education, as a result, could be a coercive ideological education on the basis of nationalism education.
If we talk about personality education with traditional music education, we should talk about education design that a student can grow to live one`s independent life, having community spirit, justice, appreciation attitude, etc. It should be different from nationalism music education, which is not associated with a democratic society. Art and one`s personality should meet inevitably on the point of human dignity, so the ethics of `tradition` should be emphasized on the debates between traditional music education and personality education.
