The purpose of this paper is to investigate the dicourse of relationship between the concepts of art and education, which has established modern art education, and to suggest the new tasks of art education in the era of post-modern. I will analyse critically the facts of decline of art with the argument on ‘the end of art’, in order to show the horizon that plays the role to support the basis of art education. After the periods of deconstruction, reduction and end of art, there is emerging an enormous movement that tries to transform the circumstances of art. In this process, the qualitative value of art as educational media has been changed greatly, and the concept and the system of art education also changed. The main task of art education today is to reconstruct the curriculum from the hermeneutic horizon of the present through the expansion of art territory and the integration of various artistic utterances. It is difficult to take a free and impartial attitude to explain different and diverse artistic phenomena. Therefore, we required to have the subjectivity to construct a new curriculum and the awakening on historicity. Many people state on the future of human life and art linked with new media and technology under the idea of reoriented totality. Various issues in art, such as life and politics, sense and body, technology and environment, show our desire to recover the link with human being. Art education without practice is vacant. The art educational curriculum is a valuable device to facilitate the close relationship among society, children and art. Art education could be a good system to absorb the nourishment of life in the midst of end and new start of art, with the guide of critical statements.

본 논문에서는 근대 미술교육의 체제를 성립시켜온 ‘예술’과 ‘교육’의 관계성에 대한 담론들의비판적 검토를 행하고, 탈근대 시대에 미술교육이 마주대하게 되는 과제를 제시해보려고 한다. ‘미술사의 종언’이라는 논의와 더불어 미술의 쇠락 현상을 객관적으로 받아들이면서, 앞으로 미술교육의 기초를 탐구하고 논의하는데 새로운 지평을 마련할 것을 목적으로 한다. 미술의 해체와 환원 그리고 미술사의 종언을 거쳐, 이제 우리들이 추구하는 것은 더 이상 근대적인 의미에서의 예술이 아니다. 오늘날 미술이 갖는 교육 미디어로서의 가치와 성격은 크게 바뀌었고, 동시에 미술교육이라는 개념과 체계도 크게 변질되고 말았다. 현대에서의 미술교육의 주요과제는 미술영역의 ‘확장’을 꾀하고 또 미술에 관한 언설들을 ‘통합’하는 가운데, 현재라고 하는 해석학적인 지평에서 커리큘럼을 재구성하는 일이다. 미술사의 여러 시대 양식과 다양한 민족양식을 자유롭고 공평한 태도를 갖고 구성하기란 쉽지가 않다. 여기에서 요청되는 것은 커리큘럼을 구성하는 주체성과 역사성에 대한 자각이다. 인간의 삶과 예술이 새로운 미디어와 테크놀로지와 연결되어 변모해가면서, 새로운 ‘전체성’의이념 아래 미래를 향한 발언이 시도되고 있다. 생활과 정치, 감각과 신체, 테크놀로지와 환경같은 현대미술의 다양한 주제는, 다시금 인간과의 유대를 회복하려는 욕구를 보여준다. 미술교육은 무엇보다도 ‘실천적’이지 않으면 의미가 없다. 현실의 사회, 현실의 어린이, 그리고 현실의 예술에 주목할 필요가 있다. 그리고 커리큘럼의 구축과 탈(脫)구축을 오고가는 실천적인비평언어의 역할이 중요하다. 탈근대의 미술교육은 미술의 종말과 새로운 시작 사이에서, 삶의 자양분을 미술로부터 흡수하는 주요 장치이다.
