The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a scale to diagnose the factors necessary for the reemployment preparation of middle-aged office workers who have retired. This scale was formulated considering the unique career characteristics of these middle-aged office workers, to diagnose their preparedness levels for reemployment and post-reemployment adaptation. The development and validation process of the reemployment readiness scale for middle-aged office retirees consisted of two main stages: item development and validation. In the item development stage, a literature review and Focused Group Interview(FGI) were conducted to establish four main constructs: positive psychological capital, reemployment needs, reemployment preparation behavior, and adaptive performance. These constructs further encompassed 12 sub-factors: job—seeking efficacy, optimism, resilience, economic needs, social needs, personal needs, search behavior, meeting the job-search requirements, job search behavior, work adaptability, interpersonal adaptability, and coping with change. Through this process, a total of 102 preliminary items were constructed. After expert content validity verification, 75 preliminary items were selected. An online survey was then conducted with 270 office retirees aged between 45 and 64 who were currently seeking employment. Using the collected data, exploratory factor analysis and reliability verification resulted in the formulation of a reemployment readiness scale consisting of a total of 48 items: 11 items for positive psychological capital, 13 items for reemployment needs, 12 items for reemployment preparation behavior, and 12 items for adaptive performance. To validate the developed scale, a second online survey was administered to 265 office retirees aged between 45 and 64 who were actively job-seeking. The collected data were subjected to confirmatory factor analysis to determine construct validity and reliability, and convergent validity was verified to ensure its credibility. All analyses utilized SPSS 25.0 and MPLUS 8.0.
